Neighborhood Beautification Grants Available

Southgate Neighborhood Council has $1000 in funds to organize volunteer-led clean up events in our neighborhood.

Have you noticed a residence, business, or park in the Southgate Neighborhood that could benefit from a neighborhood clean-up? You can comment on this post or email southgatecouncil@gmail.com to suggest a clean-up event.

The funds can be used to:
▪ Request a 6-yard dumpster for neighborhood special event or park/public area clean-up or leaf pick up for
elderly neighbors, etc. (Damage release form must be completed.)
▪ Check out clean-up supplies from Solid Waste (vests, grabbers, buckets, garbage bags) and request an
amount in disposal pass funds for public area clean up. (Volunteer waiver form must be completed.)
▪ Check out graffiti abatement supplies (paint, paint trays, rollers, garbage bags) for public area clean-up.

Private property must have a waiver signed and supplied to ONS before event.

Neighborhood Beautification Event Examples

  • Partner with neighbors who have code violations:
  • Request a 6-yard dumpster
  • Request a dumpster to be placed at a home that is in
violation City Code for excess waste. Work the Office of
Neighborhood Services and Code Enforcement to identify
neighbors in need. Some residents don’t have the physical
or financial ability to remove waste from their property.
Recruit volunteers to help load waste into dumpster. Possibly trim landscaping and mow grass.
  • Consider partnering with your local C.O.P.S. Shop to survey landscaping and how Crime Prevention Through
Environmental Design (CPTED) might be helpful for the resident.
  • Private property requires a waiver signed by property owner. A damage release form is required for dumpster
    requests.
  • Clean-up public park, trail, or street:
  • Request a 6-yard dumpster or disposal passes (if planning
to dispose of yourself) and clean-up supplies (vests,
    grabbers, buckets, garbage bags)
  • Plan a clean-up event in your neighborhood. Request a
dumpster to be placed in a location central to your clean
up or use disposal passes to remove waste via garbage
    bags.
  • A damage release form is required for dumpster requests.
  • Note that state owned trails require state authorization.
  • Graffiti Abatement:
  • Request graffiti abatement supplies (vests, paint, rollers, paint trays, garbage bags)
  • Plan an event to paint over nuisance graffiti/ tagging in your neighborhood. Request supplies for an estimated
number of volunteers. Private property requires a waiver signed by property owner.
