CITY SEEKS COMMUNITY INPUT ON NEIGHBORHOOD TRAFFIC CALMING PROJECTS

As part of a follow-up to the most recent neighborhood traffic calming workshops, Council and the Office of Neighborhood Services is inviting community members to participate in a ThoughtExchange survey to select traffic calming projects that will help shape the future of neighborhood traffic safety.  Each district will participate in a survey with questions about projects in their respective neighborhoods.

“It was so incredible to see people show up at the last set of meetings to weigh in on their traffic priorities,” said Director of the Office of Neighborhood Services Patrick Striker. “These are your neighborhoods and your streets, and I think hearing from more people will help us to set up traffic calming solutions over the next four years.”

ThoughtExchange is an online tool where an open-ended question on any subject is an “exchange.”  Participants confidentially share their answers and objectively rate each other’s responses and ideas. City Council has used ThoughtExchange throughout several other public engagement events to survey and collect feedback, anticipating receiving diverse responses and broad perspectives that can help inform their decision-making.

The ThoughtExchange survey will close on Friday, June 23, and results will be posted on the Traffic Calming website.

Housing Opportunities Q&A Session – June 1

A draft Comprehensive Plan Amendment has been developed following hours and hours of engagement and discussions with the public, local stakeholders, and neighborhood representatives throughout the City.  These amendments to Chapter 3 of the Comprehensive Plan are intended to refine and clarify the community’s vision for growth and land use in the city and represents a major step towards making housing in the City more diverse and easier to develop, obtain, and retain everywhere.  If you’d like to see the latest draft of the amendments, please see our project page at:

https://my.spokanecity.org/projects/shaping-spokane-housing/building-opportunity-for-housing/2023-comprehensive-plan-amendment/

While the public comment period remains open, we’d like to offer an opportunity for community members to hear about the latest proposal and to ask questions of our planners.  To this end, we’re offering an online presentation and Q&A session on June 1 at 5:30 PM.  Staff will give a short presentation outlining the current draft of the proposal and then give attendees an opportunity to ask any questions they may have.  The session will be recorded so those that can’t attend can watch it at their leisure.  This open house will be conducted entirely online at the following:

Glenrose YMCA Neighborhood Meetings

The YMCA of the Inland Northwest and ALSC Architects cordially invite you to attend a community engagement event regarding the planned Glenrose YMCA being contemplated near E. 57th Avenue and S. Glenrose Road on the South Hill.

Through effective public outreach, the YMCA intends to provide ample opportunity for residents and YMCA members to receive information about the project and provide feedback to the YMCA and to ALSC Architects, the facility design team.

A new YMCA is meant to meet the needs of it’s primary audience, and that’s you. Ensuring a new YMCA provides the best experience possible, we need to learn from you what your priorities are, what your wishes would be, and how we can build a Y that feels like a place your heart, mind, and body, will feel at home in.

The project planning is in its infancy, and feedback provided by residents and YMCA members will be crucial in the development of final site improvements and facility design.

To that end, there are three opportunities to share your thoughts

Tues, April 25: In-person meeting, 6 – 7:30pm,
Seventh Day Adventist Church, 5607 S. Freya St.
Light refreshments will be provided.
Please RSVP

Wed, April 26: Virtual meeting via Zoom, Noon – 1pm.
No RSVP required. Click HERE to view event and add to your calendar.

Tues, May 2: Virtual meeting via Zoom, 7 – 8pm
No RSVP required. Click HERE to view event and add to your calendar.

Thank you very much for your interest in the new Glenrose YMCA. We look forward to gathering with you at one of our events and collaborating on this important project.
